Sew Crafty Sites

I wanted to post about super simple straight-stitch projects for all you beginners out there. (Wow! That wasn't meant to be a tongue twister.) Here are a few projects that you can whip up in a day and give as gifts or keep for yourself!

SkipToMyLou is a favorite blog of mine. She focuses on another blogger, Hilani who wrote a thorough tutorial on how to make these great coasters. Click HERE to learn how you can make them too.

Next, I found these adorable curtains. Since curtains are sewn by the size of your window, it's hard to do a tutorial on measurements. Basically, you want to measure your window's width and double it for a fuller curtain. Go by the length and add a few inches for hems. How's that for a tutorial?! These curtains were made by TheHappyHousewife. Check out her post HERE.

And finally, keeping with the curtain idea, I fell in love with these window cornices. I don't have a tutorial for them, but I'm determined to make a couple for my living room windows. They just seem to need something... and I think this would be a simple fix. Be looking for a tutorial soon...

Fun With Words - Free Wall Art!

I came across a fun and free website where you can create word art. Here's a sample of some I created using characteristics of my children, Sophia, Emily, and Isaac. I love how they turned out!

(Click on images to see larger.)

I think this would be a fun craft to make and frame to put in each of my children's bedrooms. It's also a great gift to give to a special friend to tell them what they mean to you. You could add it to cardstock for stationary as well. Oh, how the possibilities are endless!

Sew Crafty Sites

Unfortunately, I was not blessed with tremendous creativity, so I love learning from other people's gifts of creativeness! Here are some really adorable ideas for simple sewing projects...

If you have a little boy (or a big boy) who likes to spiffy up, ALemonSqueezyHome offers a fun and thorough tutorial to make these adorable bow-ties. This is also a great idea for costumes!

Cloud9Fabrics has a simple downloadable pattern to make these super cute burp cloths. I'm thinking homemade baby shower gift, ladies! I know I would've loved receiving a handmade baby gift when my children were wee little ones... (Can you hear a slight Irish accent here? I can hear it and I'm not even Irish!)

And for those of you who are craftier than I am, here's a fun craft or gift idea to create from SewAndSew. You can find a fabric postcard tutorial over at RedShoeRamblings to help you out in recreating this project.

I hope you enjoy these sites and fun craft ideas as much as I do!

Sew Crafty Sites

I love to see all the fantastic ideas people come up with! I've decided to post about all the amazing ideas I come across on other blogs as well. If you blog and would like to share a creative masterpiece on SewWhatSteph.com, please let me know.

Here are the finds this week. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

This green lizard made by Abby over at WhileSheNaps is about the cutest lizard I have ever seen. From the green herringbone fabric to the spikes down his back, Abby has a great eye for detail. My 4-year-old son would absolutely fall in love with this lizard! He has a thing for lizards and loves to play with them outside. I think the lizards think of it more as torture... I often have to remind him that he's a lot bigger than they are.

Next up is this cuter than cute ruffled apron made by BayouBags. She even directs you to the tutorial she worked off so that you can make one for yourself! LOVE it!

And finally since summer is in the air here in Florida, I can't help but feature a practical and useful sunglasses case by SewFantastic. Complete with a thorough tutorial, Terri shows you just how to make your very own!
